Back to Basics: The Tumbling Mat

Posted by admin on Sep 7th 2015

There’s nothing like a good, sturdy tumbling mat to make playtime and after-school free time a little safer and more enjoyable. For kids who just need padded space to tumble, wrestle, and do that weird thing the great-grandparents called “horse play,” tumbling mats are the solution. For young gymnasts who want to be able to practice their skills after coaching is done, tumbling mats can help extend the lesson at home by providing an appropriately cushioned surface for all kinds of routines.

Kids come in all shapes and sizes, but so do our tumbling mats, so you’re sure to find the right ones for your kids’ needs. If your children are younger (smaller) and maybe just need a little extra padding in the playroom, take a look at our 4×6 tumbling mats. This is the most compact of our tumbling mats, but is still thick and sturdy. It’s available in either 1.5” or 2” thickness and three colors. Durability is the name of the game when it comes to young children, and this mat is covered in 18 oz. vinyl for just that reason. It will most likely hold up to everything your young one can throw at it.

For kids who want to practice learned gymnastics at home, we’re going to suggest the 4×8 or even 5×10 tumbling mats. Yes, they come in attractive colors, but the reason you’re going to use these mats is their size. As the kids grow, their routines lengthen – literally. They need more space to do the things they did when they were smaller. The last thing they want is to run out of room on the tumbling mat. A 4×8 is generally enough for single skills, but for bigger kids or longer combinations, the 5×10 can’t be beat. The hook and loop fasteners on the mats also enable you to attach them to each other for even more covered floor space.

Keep the kids active after school and on the weekends with soft, supportive, and durable tumbling mats!
